Back in 2019, I attended my very first Katipunan Poetry Slam with a friend, hosted by Arianna Lady Basco and Sunday Jump. Inspired by a community of poets speaking truth about resilience and uprising, I told myself that one day I would share my lived experiences with the community too. It felt like a calling I had to fulfill. It wasn’t until 2024 that I was finally able to visit the beautiful space of Sunday Jump. Seeing familiar faces and meeting new artists across different mediums radiated a strong energy of kapwa, a core Filipino concept exploring the interconnectedness of shared identity.
Visiting the space, Sunday Jump hit me with a real “time check” — a reminder that the only moment I truly have is now. Standing on that open mic, in a space that celebrates Filipino culture but welcomes everyone, I felt seen as a Filipino trans man in a way I don’t always get in the world or in other art spaces. Sharing my words, my stories, my voice, reminded me that my identity is powerful, and that my art is an agent for social change and a catalyst for discussion, accountability, and movement. It’s more than performance; it’s claiming space for myself and my community, honoring the histories and struggles that brought me here, and daring to imagine what I can create today. Sunday Jump doesn’t just influence my artistry, it roots itself as an intersection of international solidarity, cultural pride, and belonging.

With that being said, please give to Sunday Jump to amplify community arts in Historic Filipinotown!
