Dear Friends and Family,

Please join us to celebrate and support the wonderful work of J-Sei, a community care and cultural organization now in its 54th year. And join us to appreciate the life and contributions of our friend and colleague, Alan Tadao Maeda. This fundraising effort is dedicated to his memory and to celebrate his extraordinary life.

I serve on the J-Sei Board and Alan was a beloved fellow Board member. He was active in many J-Sei activities and events. Alan always offered thoughtful insight and counsel in all of our Board deliberations.

One of our last activities together was a J-Sei Men's group visit to the MIS Historic Learning Center at the Presidio. The photo above was at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. Alan was there with his volunteer work for Tsuru for Solidarity. I was there for a Japanese American Confinement Sites Consortium conference for our Crystal City Pilgrimage Committee. Remembering our Japanese Community's history and making it relevant for events today was important for Alan and our work with J-Sei.

Tsuru for Solidarity has a wonderful tribute to Alan: https://tsuruforsolidarity.org/remembering-alan-maeda/

Please Contribute to Sustain and Grow J-Sei!

May is Asian Pacific Heritage month and we are joining the Asian Pacific Fund for this fundraising effort. Josie and I ask for your help to sustain and grow important J-Sei Programs for elders:

* Home-Delivered Lunches in partnership with Meals on Wheels America provided 34,000  hot, nutritious lunches to older adults who are unable to shop or prepare their own meals.

* Food Pantry Program, in partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank, provides supplemental grocery items to many seniors who need assistance, both delivered or on-site pick up

* Resources to Counter Anti-Asian Racism offers ways to communicate and de-escalate tense situations, self defense and how to assist others in a time of increased violence against the AAPI community

* Support for educational and preservation of history efforts.

We also appreciate J-Sei's opening their facility for our Report Back on Cuban Health Care this past March, and the support for our Crystal City Pilgrimage Committee's efforts to preserve and promote the history and story of America's last WWII concentration camp.

There are so many reasons why we support J-Sei's work and why we are asking you to join us in making a contribution. Whatever amount you are able to make is deeply appreciated, it will help the work of a very important community organization.

Please join us in supporting J-Sei! And as Alan would say, much Aloha to everyone!
