Diane Wong for J-Sei

As many of you know, I have been the Executive Director for 15 years at J-Sei!  That is 24% of my life, 35,200 hours dedicated to this vibrant J-Sei community.  As I approach my retirement this year, I have such mixed feelings about leaving.  I feel lucky to have collaborated with excellent colleagues, volunteers and donors. And I have had the honor and privilege of knowing very special seniors.  Over my time at J-Sei, we have been able to make a difference in thousands of lives, bringing nutritious Japanese meals, needed services, friendships and joy to seniors and their families.  

What makes my leaving easier for me to take is that I know this amazing work will continue, probably even better than during my time here. You know that your contribution will help us unlock the challenge match dollar for dollar, and will help many who, now more than ever, need your support.  In these times, ensuring that our community organizations continue to thrive is so important. J-Sei is a tried and true organization that creates a deep sense of belonging and care for our community.

Whoever said no good deed goes unpunished had it right!  After dedicating over 42 years to the field of older adult services in many different capacities, I have been inducted into the Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame for community service.  It is an incredible and unexpected honor.

I don’t think there is much left to say, other than, it has been a fantastic run and I feel like the lucky one to have been at this amazing organization with outstanding caring and generous people.  

Thanks for helping me ease into retirement, by putting J-Sei in good stead.
