Kang Chun (KC) Cheng is a Taiwanese American photojournalist based in Nairobi, Kenya. She is the Editor-at-Large of The Xylom, an independent, nonprofit, worker-led news outlet covering global health and environmental disparities. In the past year, KC has filed dispatches everywhere from South Sudan to Ukraine, covering everything from climate disasters and agricultural solutions to how countries are responding to the Trump administration's USAID cuts and insatiable demand for critical minerals.

In April, KC was named one of eight global finalists in the Emerging Journalists category of the inaugural Stringer Awards and was featured in a full-page, full-color spread edition of the International New York Times. However, the same week, while reporting for us in Sloviansk, Ukraine, a Russian missile landed yards away from her convoy, damaging her camera equipment in the process. Therefore, this May, we are raising $6,500 to support KC's crucial, award-winning reporting.

As our legacy media institutions have turned shallow, insular, and jingoistic, KC is on the frontlines to shed light on the consequences of our own (in)actions, make complex health- and science-related topics digestible for the public, and build trust to support informed healthcare decision-making. Can we count on you to keep her work alive?
