Who is the Vietnamese Culture & Science Association (VCSA)?

Founded in 1990, the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association hosts the following events supporting our key pillars of leadership, culture, and science:

- Leadership development camp for young adults (Camp Len Duong)

- Youth Excellence Recognition luncheon for exceptional high school students

- Tobacco and Obesity Prevention Summit for young children

- and many more events promoting Vietnamese culture and community health!

Our Work During COVID-19

Unfortunately, since March 2020, we have had to cancel all of our in-person events due to COVID-19 and have shifted to virtual events and more events focused on community health. We have accomplished the following in the past 12 months:

- Partnered with Meals on Wheels and the Houston Food Bank to enroll and deliver meals to 60-100 seniors in summer 2020

- Hosted 2 COVID-19 test drives (when they were hard to get!) for more than 1,000 elderly patients

- Vaccinated more than 2,500 underserved individuals (including Hispanic, African-American, and Asian-American) through partnerships with religious organizations, mobile vaccine clinics, and a COVID-19 vaccine hotline with retail pharmacies

With no revenues coming in last year, we need your support for the following:

(1) Support our operations and programming: We are completely volunteer-run and have had to furlough our one staff member due to COVID-19 and low funds. Our office was recently broken into and severely impacted by the Texas Winter Storm and needs repairs.

(2) Accelerate in-language community health: We plan on hosting COVID-19 booster shots when announced by the CDC as well as hosting health fairs to promote preventative care, provide health insurance information, and access to in-language primary care resources to underserved communities in Houston.

(3) Promote Vietnamese culture: We will host a second, virtual Youth Excellence Recognition ceremony and various cultural events.

Our Impact and Fundraising Goal

We have been featured in the Texas Tribune and the Houston Chronicle for serving underserved communities. Our goal is to raise $2,500 which will help us staff 5 mobile vaccination events OR one large health fair. Some employers also offer a matching grant.
