CACF believes that there is an urgent need to begin a collective conversation among the AAPI families of NYC public school system to explore and understand racism, to begin to dismantle the Model Minority and meritocracy myths and anti-Blackness and to forge a path toward liberation of all BIPOC. Unless we engage in this work, the AAPI communities will remain divided and will continue to be used as a wedge between BIPOC families and white families. We propose a pilot project to develop AAPI families as racial justice activists equipped to advocate for an equitable public school system in alliance with Black and Latinx families.
Project Goal
The goal of the project is to create a shared learning community of AAPI families in the NYC public school system, focused on understanding racism through the AAPI lens.
At the end of the project we will have a cohort of AAPI families who:
have a deeper understanding of our struggle and positions in the racial hierarchy,
are competent in an AAPI narrative in the public education landscape,
are able to bring in more AAPI families into the community, and
commit to continuing participation in the shared learning community.
Help us bring this pilot to scale!
