A Place to Call Home: 20 Years of Community at ACA
Twenty years ago, ACA’s dream of a permanent home became reality.
Thanks to the generosity of longtime supporters Mason and Grace Yu, the Chinese Community Center in Madison Heights opened its doors. It wasn’t just a building—it was a promise. A promise that Chinese Americans and the broader Asian American community in Metro Detroit would have a space to gather, grow, and be seen.
Since then, the center has welcomed generations. Seniors share stories over lunch. Children learn traditional dance and calligraphy. Families celebrate Lunar New Year together. Volunteers lead citizenship workshops and health screenings.
But buildings age, and so do dreams—unless we care for them.
That’s why, as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the center, ACA is launching the Community Legacy Fund. This fund isn’t just about bricks and paint. It’s about protecting the heart of our community for the next 20 years—and beyond.
