Unitedly is a San Mateo County-based nonprofit organization and resource hub ensuring Asian families and communities have equitable access to resources and opportunities to thrive. Founded by Alyson Suzuki, Unitedly addresses systemic inequities that have historically excluded Asian residents, particularly monolingual and limited-English proficient community members from full participation in civic life and public services. Alyson was inspired by her own experience supporting her monolingual Chinese-speaking parents while navigating county systems that lacked language access and cultural competence.
Through direct services, culturally competent outreach, and systems-change advocacy, Unitedly has built a trusted network among Chinese-speaking families, childcare providers, and community members.
Asian residents make up approximately 33% of San Mateo County’s population, making them the second-largest racial group in the county. Among these communities, language access remains a critical concern, particularly for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.
Recognizing these growing needs, Unitedly has stepped into a vital role of building infrastructure where few culturally grounded services previously existed. Unitedly has become a needed entity in meeting the moment, from bridging language barriers in early childhood education and healthcare to elevating youth leadership and advocating for in-language policies.
