SPEAK(Supportive Place Empowering AANHPI & Kin)

SPEAK advances the mental health and wellness of the Asian American community.  Our mission is empowering AANHPI community wellbeing through education, advocacy, research & services.  We focus on bringing mental health into traditionally non-mental health spaces for destigmatization and awareness, ensuring adequate AANHPI representation in all parts of research and resource allocation, and improving access to culturally and linguistically matching therapeutic services.  Our work started in Westchester County NY, and we're looking to expand as our resources grow. 

SPEAK is a capacity-building organization.  We provide culturally responsive training to first-line providers and community leaders, including primary care physicians and healthcare workers; faith-based leaders; youth mentors including school counselors, and youth leaders themselves, to build community-based networks that support Asian Americans’ mental health. We also host a directory of bicultural and bilingual Asian American therapists on our website at https://www.connecttospeak.org/find-a-provider

We are grateful to the following healthcare and community-based organizations for participating in our trainings:  the Mount Sinai - Japanese Clinic; Open Door; the Chinese Community Church of Westchester; WJCS (Westchester Jewish Community Services); SASC (Student Access Services Corporation); St Vincent's 988 Crisis Prevention & Response Team; MSP (My Sister's Place) and the Ardsley Union Free School District.  Since 2024, we have expanded our reach to 20+ organizations.  We have now trained 165+ first-line providers and community leaders to be culturally responsive to the needs of the growing AANHPI community.
