ABOUT US

The Southern California Pacific Islander Community Response Team (SoCal PICRT) is a coalition of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) community-based organizations and advocates providing much-needed resources and information to our communities in the the cities and counties across Southern California.

We envision a physically, mentally, and spiritually abundant Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community that finds grounding in our Pasifika roots, celebrates our diverse identities, and collectively supports every individual in reaching their full potential.

Our mission is to weave a thriving network of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community-based organizations to holistically support and advocate for the well-being and sustainability of Southern California NHPI communities.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SoCal PICRT was created in 2020 to provide much-needed, timely resources and information for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) communities from Southern California up through the Central Valley. Today, the coalition has over 19 partner organizations and collaborates with numerous city, county, and state agencies, academic institutions, and healthcare providers.  Coalition partners serve the CHamoru, Marshallese, Native Hawaiian, Samoan, and Tongan populations through culturally and linguistically responsive approaches recognizing the intersectional identities in our communities including LGBTQIA+, those with disabilities, veterans, undocumented status, Compact of Free Association migrants, youth, elderly, and many marginalized parts of the community. Leadership of SoCal PICRT is made up of non-profit, public health, education, communications, and business professionals with decades of combined experience in community organizing, civic activism, and advocacy.

Guided by our principles of culture and tradition, trust, inclusion, generosity, and grace, we advance our mission by providing a forum for meaningful connections, helping build organizational capacity, curating funding and culturally relevant resources, increasing NHPI visibility and representation, and amplifying the advocacy efforts for our community based organization partners.
