ABOUT NORTH EAST MEDICAL (NEMS)

Welcome to North East Medical Services’ (NEMS) fundraising page for the Give In May campaign!

NEMS is one of the largest community health centers in the U.S. serving the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population. Our mission is to provide affordable, comprehensive, compassionate, and quality health care services in a linguistically competent and culturally sensitive manner to improve the health and well-being of the community. NEMS was founded in 1968 in response to a nationwide movement to establish community-based health centers, and started providing direct services to the community in 1971. Over the last 55 years, we have grown from a small primary care clinic in Chinatown to a large organization of 32 clinics/sites, 3 enrollment centers, and 2 Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Centers serving over 93,000 patients each year.

Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of AANHPIs in our society. However, it's also a time to recognize the challenges and unmet needs that many members of the AANHPI community face, especially in healthcare.

The AANHPI community has unique healthcare needs, including language challenges, differences in health practices, and limited availability of affordable healthcare services. NEMS is committed to bridging these gaps and providing high-quality, language-concordant care to all members of the AANHPI community, regardless of their ability to pay.

HOW YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

By supporting NEMS during Give In May, you are directly contributing to the health and well-being of thousands of individuals and families in the AANHPI community. Funding would help support programs like:

1. Expand availability to essential healthcare services, including primary care, dental care, behavioral health services, and more.
2. Provide language interpretation and culturally-concordant care to patients with various backgrounds and needs.
3. Support community outreach, free screenings, and education programs to raise awareness about important health issues affecting the AANHPI community.
4. Invest in innovative technologies and resources to improve patient care and enhance the patient experience.
5. Fund health initiatives, including the Self-Measured Blood Pressure Program to help patients control their hypertension; the NEMS Nourish Program to address food insecurity, nutrition, and chronic conditions; and the distribution of at-home test kits for the Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative.

Last year, we raised over $15,000 to support our Pharmacy Department’s flu vaccination program and Facilities Department’s mold mitigation project!
