Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko was formed in 1993 by George Goto (Chief drum maker) and Doug Muraoka (Director) under the name “Las Vegas Taiko”. Shortly after forming, families of the local Japanese club and Buddhist Sangha group joined. After practicing on tires, learning from other small groups around the Southwest US, and building their own drums, LV Taiko became LV Kaminari Taiko because of the impressive thunderous sounds the new drums made. As part of the Las Vegas chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, it's LVKT’s mission to spread the art form of Japanese style drumming to the Southern Nevada community and to celebrate its cultural diversity. Over 20+ years, LVKT has performed all over Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas at schools, conventions, casinos, and community festivals! LVKT has students and performers with a diverse array of experiences, lifestyles, and identities. It is important for LVKT to maintain the traditional roots of taiko and taiko instruction, while bringing some modern flavor and influence into their music.

LVKT is happy to announce we have a matching program!  If we reach at least $2,000, our partner (Asian Community Development Council) will match donations up to $10,000!
