ABOUT US

Founded in 1962, the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (KAFLA) is a 2022 California Nonprofit of the Year with a mission to represent and empower the Korean American community of Los Angeles County. We aim to protect and advocate for the rights and interests of our community, foster amicable relations and cultural exchange between Korea and the U.S., and promote interaction and understanding between the Korean American and a multitude of diverse ethnic communities.  We serve over 40,000 people annually through our wide range of programs and services.

IMPACT

  • Lead organization in California to assist over 70,000 monolingual/limited English-proficient Korean American and neighboring community members to receive over $50 million in economic aid, housing and food security, healthcare, and other essential resources since the onset of the pandemic.  Korean Americans from LA County, Orange County, San Diego, San Jose, Phoenix, and Las Vegas visit KAFLA for help; many out-of-state Korean Americans call seeking assistance.
  • Multilingual one-stop center to support access to California Unemployment Insurance, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, CalWorks, SSA Retirement Benefits, SSI, Emergency Rent and Mortgage Relief, Breathe Guaranteed Income Program, and more.
  • Host free monthly COVID-19 and influenza vaccination clinics with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
  • Produced over 600 YouTube KAFLA TV daily news and "how-to-apply" videos on financial assistance, garnering over 3.3 million views.
  • Distributed over 10,000 safety whistles and pamphlets to promote safety and awareness on how to report hate incidents.
  • Work with our representatives to advocate for enacting policies that promote language access, equity, and public safety, better safeguard our civil rights, and seek justice for victims of racially-motivated violence.
  • Collaborate with diverse partners to strengthen inter-community relationships and promote understanding.
  • Co-host a Saigu Peace Gathering annually to commemorate the anniversaries of the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Uprising.
  • Helped enact Koreatown to be unified into a single district for the first time in history – strengthening its political representation at the local, state, and national levels.
