Founded in 1962, KAFLA is a leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit advocacy and service organization with a mission to represent and empower the Korean American community of Los Angeles County. We advance civil rights, strengthen U.S.–Korea relations, and foster cross-cultural understanding. We serve as a bridge across generations and organizations, cultivating the next generation of Korean American leaders.
Recognized as a 2024 Top 100 California Nonprofit and the 2022 California Nonprofit of the Year, KAFLA is a trusted community anchor delivering measurable, life-changing impact. Each year, we serve more than 40,000 residents, prioritizing vulnerable populations including low-income seniors, immigrants, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and undocumented families.
Our comprehensive programs address both immediate needs and long-term stability through outreach, benefits enrollment, health and wellness services, pro bono legal and housing support, food security, small business resilience and recovery, disaster relief and emergency response, anti-hate and language access services, civic engagement, and youth leadership development.
IMPACT
► Addressing Food Insecurity: Since 2008, KAFLA’s Feed Koreatown Food Bank has served more than 22,000 low-income residents. As the only local organization providing Korean groceries, this program is a critical lifeline for seniors and immigrant families who rely on nutritious, culturally familiar foods.
► Multilingual One-Stop Resource Center: KAFLA serves as a trusted safety-net hub, connecting residents to essential services:
Benefits & Case Management: one-on-one assistance accessing Medi-Cal, CalFresh, SSI, EDD unemployment benefits, affordable housing, rent relief, and utilities support.
Pro Bono Legal Clinics: Free legal services addressing labor rights, immigration, and tenant protections to prevent displacement and economic exploitation.
Health Access: On-site women’s health screenings and vaccination clinics that expand care for uninsured and linguistically isolated communities.
Small Business Resiliency: Technical assistance, access to capital, and disaster recovery support for minority-owned businesses.
► Anti-Hate & Public Safety: KAFLA promotes community safety through advocacy, outreach, and victim support. Our Korean Language Interpreter Program bridges communication gaps at the Olympic Community Police Station, ensuring Korean-speaking residents receive critical assistance.
► Disaster Relief & Recovery: KAFLA raised and distributed $230,000+ to homeowners and small businesses impacted by the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, while providing rapid guidance to navigate FEMA, insurance, and recovery resources.
► Youth Empowerment: KAFLA invests in future leaders through its Meet A Mentor and annual Youth Exchange programs.
► Civic Engagement: We strengthen civic participation through voter registration, education, and Get-Out-the-Vote outreach.
