Khmer Girls in Action is a community-based organization whose mission is to build a progressive and sustainable Long Beach community that works for gender, racial and economic justice led by Southeast Asian young women. We envision a safe, healthy and just world where all people are free from oppression and are able to determine their lives and communities.
For over 20 years, KGA has developed socially conscious and politically active youth. Through our programs and campaigns, we have increased their capacity to be leaders and organizers in our community who are fighting systemic oppression and advancing change.
Currently, KGA leaders are advocating for an equitable distribution of resources through the Long Beach Invest in Youth campaign. Also youth leaders, alumni and field canvassers are ensuring that our neighbors and residents in hard to count areas complete the 2020 Census and are registered and ready to vote. We engage in calls-to-actions that advocate to keep families together and end deportations.
More than ever, especially in this pandemic, we are ensuring that our members can access community care through holistic leadership development programming that includes culturally relevant, social- emotional, and academic support. The guidance, political education and leadership opportunities that youth receive now determines how our communities will rise up from this moment and beyond.
We continue to center and uplift the voices of young people because they play such a critical role in linking their families and communities to resources and opportunities to shift structural disparity. By investing in youth and their leadership we ensure that our AAPI communities emerge from this crisis with hope, strength, unity.
Contributions from #GiveInMay will help support KGA to continue building the leadership of Southeast Asian youth in Long Beach to shift power today and for the next generations.
