India Home is dedicated to addressing the needs of South Asian and Indo-Caribbean immigrant older adults in Queens and across NYC, helping elders age with dignity through culturally competent social, psychological, recreational, and wellness services.
Over the years, we’ve continued to grow- expanding our programs, deepening our impact, and reaching more seniors than ever before. We are incredibly grateful to supporters like YOU for making this work possible!
Today, India Home serves over 1,500 seniors annually across multiple neighborhood centers in Jamaica, Flushing, and other Queens communities. Through congregate meals, case management, health and wellness education, digital literacy, and social programming, we provide a culturally familiar environment where seniors feel supported, connected, and cared for.
But as our community grows, so do the challenges many older adults face- including reliable access to nutritious food.
Introducing Our Next Chapter: The Robo Food Pantry Initiative
This year, India Home is proud to launch an innovative new solution to address food insecurity in our community: the Robo Food Pantry Initiative.
The Robo Food Pantry Initiative is a first-of-its-kind, technology-enabled pantry that will provide expanded access to fresh, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food for immigrant seniors and underserved residents in Queens.
Traditional food pantries often operate only once per week for limited hours, creating barriers for seniors who may face mobility issues, transportation challenges, language barriers, or long wait times. India Home’s Robo Food Pantry will help transform access by creating a more dignified, accessible, and sustainable model, created through our partnership with Zippin, which uses checkout-free technology utilizing cameras and shelf sensors.
This initiative will:
- Provide autonomous food access 12 hours a day, 6 days a week
- Offer fresh groceries and culturally familiar foods
- Include multilingual support and nutrition education
- Reduce stigma through discreet, technology-assisted access
- Improve efficiency through real-time inventory tracking and reduced food waste
Why We Need Your Help
While grant funding is helping us build the Robo Food Pantry infrastructure, we need your support to help stock it with food.
This Give in May, India Home is raising $5,000 to support food for our new Robo Food Pantry and help ensure seniors and families have access to nutritious groceries when they need them most.
Your support will help provide:
- Fresh produce
- Pantry staples
- Culturally relevant foods
- Reliable food access for our community
The Need is Urgent!
New York City continues to face significant food insecurity, particularly among older adults and immigrant communities.
India Home’s experience serving South Asian, Indo-Caribbean, and immigrant seniors has shown that many older adults face barriers to accessing healthy, culturally appropriate food due to fixed incomes, health conditions, mobility limitations, and linguistic isolation.
The Robo Food Pantry Initiative directly addresses these inequities by combining technology, cultural relevance, and community-centered care.
Phase I of this initiative will launch one pilot site in Queens, serving residents through a replicable, data-driven model that strengthens equitable food access, promotes nutrition awareness, and supports dignity for underserved communities.
By modernizing food distribution, India Home aims to create a sustainable system that not only feeds our community, but also reduces barriers, improves efficiency, and strengthens wellbeing.
Small or big, your donation will help us take this next step toward a healthier, stronger, and more food-secure community.
Together, we can help build a future where seniors can access healthy food with dignity, safety, and convenience.
This May, support India Home’s Robo Food Pantry Initiative and help us create a more equitable, innovative, and compassionate model for community care.
Donate today and help nourish our community!
