A Hopeful Encounter (AHE) is a community-based organization dedicated to fostering leadership and cultural unity. Based in Fresno, California, we serve as a bridge for the Southeast Asian community, creating a space where heritage and future potential meet. We believe that every individual, from our Elders to our vibrant youth, deserves a path forward rooted in dignity and opportunity.

Our Philosophy: Leadership Beyond Boundaries

We provide a platform for Youth Leadership through innovative, multi-faceted programs. To us, leadership is not found in a single place; it is cultivated through passion and discipline. We empower young people to lead in all areas of life, whether through recreational sports like Volleyball and Flag Football or cultural expressions like Hmong Dance and traditional cooking.

Bridging the Intergenerational Divide

Our work spans the entire lifecycle of our community. We serve everyone from Elders in our wellness programs to our local youth. We are deeply committed to bridging the intergenerational and intercultural gap, believing that there is profound beauty and wisdom to be shared when our youth and elders learn from one another.

The relationships we build are the "true essence of community," anchored by strong ties to our roots, our culture, and our shared history.

Global Impact: Education in Southeast Asia

Our mission extends far beyond the borders of Fresno. We are dedicated to building schools in rural villages across Southeast Asia, ensuring that children in remote areas have the resources they need to thrive.

• Ban Pawhai, Laos: Our first school project is located here. Every year, we visit to deliver locally sourced school supplies and snacks.

• Empowerment Workshops: During our visits, we host workshops designed to expand students' horizons and introduce them to opportunities they may have never imagined.

Our ultimate goal is to create Unity. By integrating our culture as a framework, we strive to build a generation of strong, unified, and self-confident leaders who are proud of where they come from and certain of where they are going.
