Vietnamese Boat People is proud to host its 4th annual Mỹ Việt Story Slam event celebrate the uniquenesses of the Vietnamese community and its diaspora stories and experiences from five storytellers chosen from a worldwide open call for story submissions.
Join this virtual event by Donation. Whether it's $5 or $100 - No amount is too small - Give what you can.
Proceeds from this fundraiser goes toward the mission of Vietnamese Boat People (VBP) to preserve and carry forward the stories of the Vietnamese diaspora. Our goal is to educate and inspire listeners on the diaspora history of the Vietnamese community and connect people through stories of the human spirit. Through our podcast and public programs such as storytelling workshops and events, story slams, community blogs, conversation kits and journey mapping, we empower people to preserve their own stories and we help to lift up marginalized voices.
This Year's Theme: Ba, Mẹ ơi
It's hard to imagine our parents having lives before us. Have you thought about how much you actually know, or want to know about their past and what has shaped who they are today? This year we asked storytellers from all over the world to share a story about their mom, dad, or someone whom they consider to be a parent-figure.
Storytellers have an allotted amount of time to share their stories using their preferred medium and format such as monologues, poetry, film making or visual arts. Visit www.vietnameseboatpeople.org/storyslam for more details.
