Han for KRC

Hey everyone, it’s Han.

As many of you may already know, I grew up with KRC.  

안녕하세요 여러분, 한입니다.

이미 많은 분들이 알고 계시겠지만, 저는 민족학교와 함께 자랐습니다. 

I started out babysitting the younger kids while our parents organized and being the mascot for Ji-shin-balp-ki. KRC gave me a place to be myself and find my voice. I lobbied for immigrant rights in D.C., marched down Wilshire Boulevard  for equitable access to education, and even took part in a hunger strike. Above all, KRC gave me the gift of Pungmul, a community to depend on, and the opportunity to work alongside others for the common good.

어린 시절에는 어린 친구들을 돌보는 일부터 시작해, 지신밟기 마스코트로 활동하기도 했습니다. 민족학교는 제가 제 정체성과 목소리를 발견할 수 있도록 많은 경험과 배움을 준 소중한 공간이었습니다. 저는 워싱턴 D.C. 에서 이민자 권리를 위해 로비를 하고, 이민자들의 평등한 교육을 위해 윌셔가를 따라 행진했으며, 심지어 단식 투쟁에도 참여했습니다. 무엇보다도 민족학교는 저에게 "풍물"이라는 선물, 소중한 인연, 그리고 지역사회를 위해 많은 사람들과 함께 협업할 수 있는 기회를 주었습니다.

Today, I’m proud to serve on KRC’s board to ensure that the younger generations continue to have the foundations that we did.

그리고 지금은 민족학교 이사회에서, 다음 세대가 우리가 함께 만들어온 기반을 이어갈 수 있도록 봉사하게 되어 매우 뜻깊고 자랑스럽게 생각합니다.

Now in its 43rd year, KRC continues its mission of helping immigrants secure their futures and fully exercise their civic rights, reaching more than 10,000 people annually. That’s over 10,000 lives stabilized through immigration applications, affordable housing, healthcare access, and other safety net services. 

올해로 43년을 맞이한 민족학교는 한결같이 이민자들이 안정적인 미래를 확보하고 시민권을 완전히 행사할 수 있도록 돕는 사명을 이어가고 있으며, 연간 10,000명 이상의 사람들에게 서비스를 제공하고 있습니다. 즉, 이민서류 작성, 저소득 주택신청, 메디칼 등 다양한 복지프로그램을 통해 10,000명 이상의 삶이 안정을 찾은 것입니다.
