I’m proud to support the Austin Asian Community Health Initiative (AACHI), one of the only organizations in Central Texas providing free, culturally and linguistically appropriate healthcare support to underserved Asian communities.

AACHI serves immigrant families and first-generation Asian Americans who often face language barriers, lack of insurance, and difficulty navigating complex systems. Through trusted Community Health Navigators, AACHI helps clients enroll in healthcare and public benefits, access care, and stay connected to the resources they need to live healthy, stable lives.

Each year, AACHI supports hundreds of individuals and families—helping over 95% of clients gain or maintain health coverage, providing transportation to care, and reaching thousands more through in-language health education and outreach. In times of crisis, from winter storms to public health emergencies, AACHI steps in to ensure communities are informed, supported, and not left behind.

This work is only possible because of community support.

💛 $1,500 supports one client for a full year of navigation and care
💛 $500 trains a culturally and linguistically specialized Community Health Navigator

This May, I’m participating in Give In May to help AACHI continue this critical work. Join me in making sure everyone in our community has access to care, dignity, and support.

When my daughter Sachi was born, I dealt with the hospital meaningfully for the first time in my life. I went in with every advantage: fluent English, a flexible job, more information than most people have, and a lifetime of knowing my way around American institutions. And it was still hard, confusing, and exhausting.

So I think often about what that same experience is like for someone without those advantages. For a parent whose English is still developing, or who comes from a country where healthcare works nothing like it does here. I have lived in places where I could not figure out the healthcare system myself, and I know how disorienting that is. Culturally responsive help, from someone who can guide you in your own language, is not a nice extra. It is the difference between getting care and going without.

That is what AACHI provides, and it is why I am giving this AAPI Heritage Month. My daughter is named after my grandmother, Sachie, who wanted to be a nurse. Her husband, my grandfather Joe, was a doctor. Care has run through my family for generations, and this is my way of helping it reach families who need someone in their corner.

Donate today and be part of building a healthier, more equitable community.
