Join me in supporting "Our Journeys”

Hello!

My name is Benjamin Hoàng Nguyễn, and I’m fundraising in support of Vietnamese Boat People this May as part of the #GiveInMay campaign for AANHPI Heritage Month.

Vietnamese Boat People (VBP) is dedicated to preserving and uplifting stories from the Vietnamese diaspora; stories of migration, resilience, identity, and rebuilding that are often left untold or unheard.

I first connected with VBP in 2022, when my siblings participated in their signature Story Slam. At the time, I was searching for a deeper connection to my Vietnamese community, and found it through the stories being shared. After I graduated college, I reached out to VBP Founder Tracey and began as their Social Media Manager, uplifting stories and events across the Vietnamese community.

In 2025, I had the opportunity to step onto the Story Slam stage myself and share my own journey, reflecting on moving to New York and finding my place here among the Vietnamese and arts community while I began my Master's program. 

Today, I serve as Programs Manager at VBP, and this work has become an even more meaningful space for connection and healing, for both me and our broader community across generations. 

Through projects like the Our Journeys Traveling Exhibition, these stories are brought into communities across the country. The exhibition weaves together oral histories, personal artifacts, and interactive storytelling to create space for reflection, connection, and recognition.

This work matters because these stories are not just history, they are living legacies that continue to shape who we are today.

This year, funds raised will support:
• bringing the Our Journeys Exhibition to more cities
• deepening the Journeys Map, our digital archive
• developig more community storytelling programs, including Community Recordings and Story Slams
